A simple but useful plugin

Posted on 16. Mar, 2012 by in Announcements, Blog

Here at WP KickStart, we go through many plugins every week, and every project. Some a site specific, some we build our selves but one is a simple tool we use every project. This plugin is called: Block Bad Queries (BBQ).

Rather than reinvent the wheel the authors website describes the plugin as:

” a simple script that protects your website against malicious URL requests. BBQ checks all incoming traffic and quietly blocks bad requests containing nasty stuff like eval(,base64_, and excessively long request-strings. “

Put simply; it stops the bad stuff!

Is WordPress killing your SEO?

Posted on 08. Jun, 2010 by in Blog

Head to your WordPress dashboard, then navigate to Privacy Settings.. You will be faced with two options:

Blog Visibility

These two options determine your entire future with Google. One will allow your site to be indexed, the other will block your entire site from Google and will prevent any links to your site showing up in search results.

If you have noticed that your not showing up in search results, this may be the reason. Check your Privacy Settings in the WordPress Dashboard.

WordPress 2.9 released

Posted on 23. Dec, 2009 by in Announcements, Blog

WordPress 2.9 has been released and adds several new features:

Built-in image editing – This feature allows you to do basic image editing to your uploads. This includes cropping, resizing, rotating, among other things.

Easier embedded content – Using the new oEmbed standard, embedding content is now as easy as pasting a URL. Support for YouTube, DailyMotion, Flickr, WordPress.tv, among many others.

Global trash feature – The Delete button is now replaced with a Trash button, which acts like all other Trash cans you have used. This gives you a second chance to recover posts or comments you may have deleted by accident.

Bulk plugin upgrade – It is now possible to bulk upgrade plugins automatically, instead of upgrading one by one. This also takes advantage of the community-powered plugin compatibility data from the plugin directory, which prevents you from using a plugin which could possibly break your site.

WordPress 2.9 has some exiting new features. Upgrade today. Your WordPress upgrades are in good hands. We have upgraded WordPress many times, and take a full backup of your site just in case anything ever went wrong.

In today’s screencast I explain the value in our backup feature, which its available in both our Advanced and Professional plans. I also tell a story of how all the data on Conorp.com was lost.
